A Tale of Attachment

Once upon a time, I had a piece of fabric in my stash.  I loved it so much that I dared not ever cut it.  Every time I went to Joann’s, I looked for it again, and they did not have it. Finally I decided to use it before I fell out of love with it.  So I made this purse.

I love it so much, although I’m not sure I will be sewing this pattern again.  It is the Taxi Tote from Anna Maria Horner’s Seams to Me.  It is the perfect size.  I used to be a small purse kinda gal, but really, who am I kidding with those tiny Audrey Hepburn purses?  I need to carry stuff: wallet, phone, keys, diaper, wipes, sling, sunscreen, bug spray, lip balm, granola bars, water bottles….

After I finished the purse, I was at Joann’s and what did I spot from across the cutting counter?  A cart of fabric ready to be restocked, and there…was my fabric.

I bought two yards.  I plan on making yet another skirt.

The Buddha said:

If you desire joy,
Completely forsake all attachment.
By forsaking completely all attachment
A most excellent ecstasy is found.

So long as (you) follow attachment
Satisfaction is never found.
Who ever reverses attachment
With wisdom attains satisfaction.
