dishcloth

It is such a small thing that it hardly deserves blogging, but I’ve been making these knitted dishcloths and I’m really liking them.  I made an enormous ball of tulle-yarn and I probably have enough to make about a thousand of these.  Which is exactly how many I want.

I’ve lately been thinking about practical things also being beautiful.  I’ve always been a real homebody, but now that I am home full time again with both kids, and we are home so much, I want my home to feel beautiful.  Not perhaps in the traditional sense, but in a comfortable, lived-in, and loved sense. Why can’t things that are meant to be practical also be beautiful?

I’m thinking of this broom.

And about a dozen of these cups.

And pretty much every thing at Herriot Grace.

My knitted dishcloths are my favourite to wash up with! Unfortunately I only knitted a few, and that was over a year ago, so they’re getting a bit sad and worn now, but I definitely want to make a start on some more – I figure it will be great mindless knitting once the imminently expected baby arrives!

Maybe this weekend you can knit up some dishcloths, whip up a broom, carve some spoons and other practical wooden tools and throw a few ceramic glasses. It wouldn’t suprise me one bit! Then you could enjoy some of that yummy just-canned marmalade on some homemade bread, while wearing a handmade skirt and a homegrown flower in your hair. You are amazing and a constant source of inspiration. You deserve all the practical beauty you can get(or make)!

i love making knit dishcloths. (it’s about the only project i actually finish these days!!)

oh and just wanted to share that i bought a similar broom a few years back (not from that shop) and it sheds SO much.

i didn’t look closely, maybe the maker of the one you like has a way to avoid or minimize that but have not loved mine nearly as much as i thought i would since i am always having to clean up after it!
