May Day

We celebrated our first May Day today.  Being a cross-quarter day, marking the midpoint between the spring equinox and the summer solstice, it signifies the peak of spring, and the forthcoming summer.  We joined together for flower crafting, singing, dancing, playing and feasting.  Enjoying the sunshine and fresh air, as many many before us have.  […]

Spring 2011

I love the springtime.  It’s my favorite season here in Florida, and it can be fleeting.  I love the whole spring holiday aesthetic: pastel colors, birdies, eggs.  What’s not to love about that?  I vowed to not let the holiday sneak up on me this year but it did anyway.  It seems that every year […]

School at the Beach

Well I sort of disappeared from this space for a while there.  I’m sure you can guess why:  I came down with the flu the kids had. Somehow The Daddy Monkey was spared.  But today we are all sick with some sort of sinus cold.  So rather than focus on how much sickness I’ve dealt […]

The Emotions of Strawberry Picking

Yesterday, we decided to join our friends on their yearly visit to the local farm for u-pick strawberries.  I think I can safely declare that it is indeed Spring, even if the calendar says otherwise. It was a glorious day with temperatures is the mid 70’s!  (Northern friends, you won’t be hating me so much […]

A Year of Choice :: Dance Party for One (Or More)

When the homeschool day begins to get stale, and I’m going a little cuckoo from being the only adult in the house, I like to put on some loud music and dance around.  Sometimes the kids think I’m crazy, sometimes they join in.  Today’s song was “I Got a Woman” by Ray Charles.  Actually, almost […]

Candlemas

I couldn’t help but feel a small sense of accomplishment on Candlemas this year. This marks our first full year of festivals.  It was with Candlemas last year that I began our year of rhythm. This year I did manage to spread the festivities out over a few days, but not by much.  I’m still […]

Gingerbread House 2010

I know it’s a bit late to be posting photos of the gingerbread house, but since I shared the the last two here, it seemed only fitting that this one be recognized as well. This year I had real help from The Girl.  The Boy did help a bit, then wandered off to build Lego. […]

Snow

There’s not alot of it, but there’s certainly enough to experience it. Sadly, the snow did not taste like sugar, as the children were expecting. Not enough for snow angels, but he sure did try. The weather forecast says we may get some more snow early next week, and we are really hoping it happens!

St. Nicholas Day

This was our first year celebrating Saint Nicholas Day, and while I was a bit concerned about both Saint Nicholas and Santa Claus visiting our house this year, the children were not bothered by it. Of course who needs another excuse to eat chocolate at breakfast!  We compared the two winterly figures and came to […]
