Spring Is In The Air

And I couldn’t be happier. Diapers are drying on the line. We started our seeds, both flowers and herbs. Our azaleas are in bloom. The spiderwort is popping up. The flame vine is starting to to come back to life. And we had the first of many wonderful beach days to come.

Homemade Granola

When my dear friend R asked his grandmother if she was working class British or wealthy British, her reply was (in her very British accent) “I make me own breakfast!”  Well, for those of us who make our own breakfast, I offer you my granola recipe. Since I do not like my granola overly sweet, […]

Thrift Scores

I’ve had great luck at my local thrift shops lately.  Here are a few of my favorite finds. This is the sort of find I dream about.  These four napkins are brand new, still crisp and unstained.  I think I will make something out of them because I love the fabric too much to wipe […]

A Little Late For Valentine’s Day

I love: The Girl, for her persistent toddling. The Boy, for his incredible imagination. The Daddy Monkey, for filling our home with music every day. My family, for showing me the true meaning of the expression “it takes a village to raise a child.”

Sock Progress

I am so proud of my sock and it’s not even done yet.  It’s kind of hard to see in the photo, but I turned a heel! I was making real progress and then after a rough day I was rushing through dinner preparations and I nearly cut the tip of my left pinkie off.  […]

Sorrell At Last

Remember when I was waxing rhapsodic about sorrell?  Well here it is. Isn’t it lovely?

Thank You Kay and Ann

The Monkey family and I were at the library on Sunday, and I stole away to the second floor to find a book for myself for a change.  Usually trips to the library involve bribing The Girl with germ-laden library toys while I read books with The Boy, then chasing the toddling Girl around while […]

Chimichurriffic!

Here’s a great budget-friendly meal.  The Daddy Monkey gets so excited when I tell him I’m making this.  He’s the one who coined the term “chimichurrific.” I know this is usually served with flank steak, but for the price,  I’ve never been very impressed with flank steak.  London broil is crazy cheap.  I get it […]

First Waldorf Doll

Since I shared The Girl’s Waldorf doll last week, I thought I’d share The Boy’s today.  I really love how he turned out.  I made him to match The Boy’s eye and hair color, and I even made the little hawaiian shirt and jeans just like The Boy used to wear. I made him from […]

The Boy’s Quilt

Here’s the quilt I made for The Boy’s big boy bed.  It took me a year to make.  I finished it just in time for his third birthday, a year after he moved into the bed.  It is a rail fence pattern done in light, medium, and dark shades of green, blue, and purple.  I […]
