Pink, Pink

I’ve been really tired in the evenings lately, and that means less time spent sewing and more time sitting on the couch and knitting.  I’m feeling a little burned out on socks right now, and who wants to knit with wool when it’s so hot outside?  So I decided to start a fall sweater for The Girl.  Since it will be so tiny, I decided to use up some of my many odd-balls from my yarn stash.  I found a pretty mustard yellow, and a nice heather gray, which I envisioned making into a striped sweater for her.

She had different ideas.  I showed her the yarn, and she was immediately drawn to the yellow.  She loved it, but when I showed it to her with the gray, she kept saying, “no, no!”  Now let me add here that when I get her dressed in the morning, she runs to the closet where all the dresses are hanging and pointing up at them says, “pink, pink.”  Every day.  My eighteen month old little girl likes pink apparently.  I never thought she would be so opinionated so young, but there you go.

So for the first time (and surely not the last), I took her to the craft store for some yarn.  I gave her several choices and she of course chose pink.  It’s a really soft 100% cotton yarn which I was happy to discover is grown in the US and made in Canada.  And it’s machine washable, which is a necessity for a small child.  I was unsure how the cotton would feel while knitting, and I had my doubts, but it’s surprisingly easy to knit and feels good in my hands.

I’m using the Haiku pattern from Knitty, which I love.  If it knits up fast enough, I may make another in a different color.  But of course then it wouldn’t be pink.
